It is the ultimate cliché to say that we live in the ‘age of technology’, but in many ways, it really is the case. Even ten years ago it was almost inconceivable to be able to shop from the comfort of your living room, bedroom, or even while sitting on the train. Today, however, as most people are connected to the internt wherever they go and shops of all kinds have online stores, shopping online has become the norm; from groceries to clothes, and of course, you can even buy glasses online.
The option to buy products online gets rid of the problem of physical distances. To some extent (except postage and packaging costs), it no longer matters where in the world you live in terms of what products you are able to buy. Furthermore, for many people, the option to buy products online can save time travelling to shops, and allows them to browse items comfortably, easily and quickly from their own homes.
Although many people still prefer to shop for clothes in high street shops in order to try them before they buy (there is nothing worse than ordering a pair of jeans online only to find they are too small!), for other fashion items such as glasses, online shops are becoming very common.
Buying glasses online in many ways gives you a big advantage. It doesn’t matter where in the world you live, it is still possible to buy vintage, collectible, rare and unique items without even leaving the house.
Online stores also offer new possibilites for small and independent designers, as they can both advertise and sell their products, without having to worry about overheads for things such as rent. For small eyewear companies and designers, the opportunity to sell, and for people to buy glasses online therefore opens up a world of possibilities.
Blickers believes in the power and opportunites offered by the internet. Blickers has therefore recently launched its online shop that sells authentic, limited edition vintage sunglasses from a number of well known designer brands, such as Playboy and Versace. The website also sells glasses online by smaller, newer brands such as Happiness Shades and ORIGINeyes (and soon to be more). Although these two brands deserve a fuller introduction, for now here is a sneak preview of what they are like...
