Some time ago I heard talk about a dress made from hair by the renowned and prestigious label Maison Martin Margiela (in the photo below);) ... but never before about glasses made from human hair.
The way to make human hair glasses is easy. The hair is compressed and mixed with a natural resin that is used to stick it, moulding the shape of the hair and allowing it to harden. Once the frame is dry and hard, it is polished into the desired shape, and we have perfect eyewear where you certainly won’t have a "hair" out of place.
This eyewear collection was created through the collaboration of two students from the Royal College of Art in the UK, Alexander Groves and Azuka Murakami, and it was introduced in 2011 with the aim of demonstrating that useful (and very original) objects can be made with material as peculiar as hair).
What is clear though, after looking through forums, blogs and specialist articles, is that I have not seen that this initiative has moved on from something purely scientific and informative to become a fashion trend.
So we will surely have to wait a bit to be able to buy eyewear with the hair of our favourite singer or a fashionable actress.
Would you like to have eyewear made with your own hair or that of someone you love?
