Of course, most people are familiar with British celebrities, and would be able to recognize most of the big names that are often in the gossip magazines or on the TV. I recently wrote about British celebrities in sunglasses and discovered some of the styles that they have been wearing this Summer, from Daniel Craig to Emma Watson! (see here). But it seems that most people are largely unaware of celebrities from other countries, even ones that are as close to us as Italy! But, considering Italy is one of the biggest fashion centres in Europe and has produced incredibly famous fashion designers such as Gianni Versace and Giorgio Armani, it seems only right that we should also have a look at Italian celebrities in glasses, and see what styles they have been wearing!
Some Italian celebrities are recognised specifically because of the glasses they wear, and they have become important parts of their image, for example the famous Italian film writer and director Lina Wertmuller is never seen without her iconic glasses with bold, white frames (below).
So... what are the main glasses styles worn by Italian VIPs? Well it seems it is possible to divide them into three categories: slightly oversized, bold acetate frames, the classic styles that are timeless, and frameless lenses that are barely noticeable.
Bold frames
These bold framed glasses essentially represent the classic nerd look which has recently turned cool. They create a 'hipster intellectual' look that gives the wearer a brooding and sexy vibe. The bold frames are also the 'in' modern style that is worn by people all over the place at the moment, and it seems these young Italian celebrities truly know how to pull it off.
Classic styles
Elegant and traditional, these classic types of frames are worn by men and women with the same results: they give the wearer a timeless look at oozes confidence. You may not trust all journalists, but journalists with these serious glasses on, such as Enrico Mentana (directly above) would be hard to consider insincere.
Frameless lenses
These incredibly subtle glasses without frames around the lenses are designed to blend to the face and be almost invisible. This subtle look has been particularly popular among slightly older people in the spotlight in Italy, such as TV presenters and journalists (above).
So, to some up, there seems to be quite a variety of styles worn by Italian celebrities in glasses, that range from styles that specifically make a statement to ones that are incredibly subtle, as well as classic and timeless styles. But one thing is for certain, Italian celebrities seem to look good in whichever styles they go for!-
