Twenty-six-year-old Oscar Palencia is a big fan of surf as well as being a Social Education student who is creative, dynamic and enterprising… He is also the founder of Palens Barcelona - a young brand name that began early in 2012, when Oscar converted his garage into a workshop for the creation of wood sunglasses
The Palens philosophy is to create 100% handmade products in Barcelona, using living, organic materials that bring us into contact with nature thanks to the wood, the texture and the scent.
I would also like to emphasise his sense of social responsibility by pointing out that the wooden cases are made by a foundation for people with special needs.
Palens is an act of protest against the social and economic situation that Spain is currently experiencing. At a time when young people are having serious problems accessing the labour market, Oscar is attempting to reinvent himself by creating his own project as a means of making a living. He now employs a team of 6 people.
The models that Oscar and his team create are pampered and crafted down to the finest detail, with some very cool designs that you can see here. And check out this cool video here.
I’ve already got myself a pair of Noli Zebrawood. I love them! Check out my photo. Once again we can see that helping small businesses who are responsible towards the environment, towards society, and towards the product itself, makes buying feel better… I can guarantee it! ;)
